Locally Produced Electricity, Digitally Traded – A Platform for Local Electricity Communities

Development of a Platform for Local Electricity Communities (LEC)

On behalf of a Swiss energy provider, IT Republic supported the development of a digital platform for establishing and managing local electricity communities (LECs). Applications can be efficiently submitted, reviewed, and managed via web forms. The solution enables the trading of locally produced electricity within a neighborhood or an entire municipality, creating a digital local energy marketplace.

Initial Situation: Local Electricity Community (LEC)

A local electricity community allows electricity producers and end consumers to trade locally generated energy directly. The platform accounts for regulatory requirements such as municipal boundaries and existing grid topology, while supporting the management of all involved stakeholders and processes.

Solution

The application was developed as a modern web solution. The focus was on user-friendly application submission, automated workflows, and a secure, scalable system architecture. Special attention was paid to the integration of various services and the platform's flexible extensibility to meet future requirements in the energy sector.

Technologies and Approach

Angular was used for the frontend, and Spring Boot for the backend. The project was implemented using agile methods (Scrum) to ensure iterative and efficient delivery. Additionally, modern AI approaches were evaluated and integrated to optimize processes and further enhance the user experience.
