Support and further development of e-banking

IT Republic supported the investment firm Vontobel for several years in the operation and further development of its e-banking solution – from the integration of core systems to the migration to OpenShift.

Initial situation

Vontobel operates an e-banking platform for its clients that must meet the highest standards of security, availability, and usability. The solution includes a web application for desktop clients, native apps for iOS and Android, and a separate app for two-factor authentication during login. The challenge was to maintain the stability of this landscape while simultaneously driving its continuous development.

Our role

IT Republic was part of Vontobel's cross-functional development team. Our engineers took on end-to-end responsibility, from requirements analysis, architecture, and implementation to testing, deployment, and operations. Beyond pure development, we contributed to technical decisions, architectural questions, and the advancement of development practices within the team, acting as a sparring partner for internal stakeholders.

Technologies and challenges

Technologically, we utilized Angular for the frontend and Spring Boot for the backend. Two key themes defined our engagement:

• Integration of core systems: Connecting to Vontobel's existing system landscape, particularly the core banking system, required a deep understanding of the business processes and careful coordination with the teams involved.
• Migration to OpenShift: The migration of the applications to the containerized platform had to be carried out during live operations – without any disruptions for the end customers.

Result

The e-banking solution has been continuously enhanced with new features and technologically modernized, all while maintaining stable operations throughout. The trust Vontobel has placed in us over time by entrusting us with entire work packages demonstrates that IT Republic does not see itself as a mere capacity provider, but as a partner that takes ownership of results.
